There is one slab of meat that gets the men in my family drooling at the mouth…a thick steak. I’m sure that this is an all to familiar scenario to you…so lets look at cooking air fryer steak.
The benefits of using an air fryer have already been much discussed so we wont revisit those, but there are some real benefits of using your air fryer to cook steaks.
It is a much cleaner experience…it involves little cleaning at the end…the dishwasher takes care of most of it.
The biggest benefit is the cooked result. A wonderfully moist steak that retains the flavor whilst remaining soft and tender. Cooking steak can often take a little guesswork but with this method below, it offers consistent results.
Follow the method below to cook your steak in your air fryer.
How to cook steak in an air fryer

Before we start, we are going to turn on our air fryer to preheat it to 400F. You should always preheat your air fryer before you start cooking anything. The end result is much better and the cooking more consistent.

For this example, we are using medium sized steaks. Now, it is up to you whether you want to season them. In this example, we are adding a little spice…some chili powder and some French salt.

Simply, coat the steaks with your seasoning, ensuring that you are getting good coverage all around.

With your air fryer now preheated, it is time to start cooking your steaks. Before we place them into the basket, use some cooking spray on your basket. Here we are using Canola oil but you can use whatever you prefer.

Place the steaks into the oiled basket and cook for 7 minutes at 400F. After 7 minutes, we will use some tongs to flip over the steaks.

It’s half time and time for the flip…you can already see how beautifully they are cooking. Once we flip them, we will cook them for a further 6 minutes which delivers a ‘medium’ steak. Obviously, add some time if you want them ‘well done’ or take time away if you prefer your steaks rare.

Here we go…air fryer steaks are ready. Simply remove from the basket and place on a warm plate. You need to let the meat rest for it to allow the juices to re-soak into the meat. It will leave your meat more tender and taste much better.

Time to plate up….look at how delicious the meat looks. The coloring is fantastic and just look at the consistency of the cooking….this steak looks lovely.
Steak air fryer temperature
For best results, cook your steak at 400F. You will need to preheat your air fryer for the best results. Starting to cook in a cold air fryer takes longer to cook and will result in uneven results.
Air fryer steak cooking times
In this example, i cooked a medium sized steak to a medium cooking result. The total cooking time was 13 minutes…i flipped them over after 7 minutes. If your steak is large or thicker, you need to extend the cooking time by a couple of minutes…but you need to check the steak before you stop our air fryer.
Air fryer steak tips
