Staub Dutch ovens

Staub – The Dutch oven masters

  • 2 minute read

A premium brand famous for their Dutch ovens…Staub

History

A relatively young company, Staub began life in 1974 in the Alsace region of France. Francis Staub founded his company designing his French oven or Cocotte using the finest cast iron and latest enameling technology available. The grandson of a cookware merchant, the industry was close at heart.

This was the springboard for their success. Fast forward today and you have a company with a fantastic reputation delivering the highest quality products. Staub alongside Le Creuset set the benchmark in the cast iron Dutch oven market.

Staub products create the perfect environment for slow-cooked, flavorsome meals. Staub is a perfect representation of its locality, Alsace has a rich heritage in fine food and one pot recipes alongside a long history and tradition in enameled ceramics.

The stork is the emblem of Staub and all its products are manufactured in France.

In June 2008, Staub was sold to ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS Group, and continues to operate independently delivering the same fine products.

Over the years, the production line has become more varied to reflect the growth of the company. Today, they  produce products for the following niches and markets;

  • Round Cocottes
  • Oval Cocottes
  • Coq Au Vin
  • Perfect Pans

  • Shallow Oval Cocottes
  • Bouillabaisse Pots
  • Grills
  • Fry Pans
  • Sauté Pans
  • Tea Pots
  • Roasting
  • Specialty Items
  • Fondue
  • Accessories

So, what makes them stand out in a relatively crowded marketplace? The answer is simple…quality, tradition and innovation.

Quality, tradition and innovation

The design of their products is also a key differentiation. They are incredibly well designed and are often seen on the tables of high end restaurants.

How does a Dutch oven work?

So, what is it about the design? The modernity. Staub are famous for their matte black enamel coating. The enameling gives strength to the cast iron and offers wonderful cooking benefits. Additionally, not only does food look great set against this black canvas, it prevents obvious visible discoloration.

The flexibility of Dutch ovens also makes them a wonderful choice. The enameling at the base means you can use them on stove tops with any heat source. They move from stove top to oven with consummate ease. A perfect all rounder and worthy of a place in the finest kitchens.

With every use, you increase the non-stick ability of the cookware. Throw in clever design such as the self-basting spikes adorning the underside of the lid which acts to baste the food, you have clever, winning design.
