Gourmia pressure cooker…Still worth buying?

Gourmia Pressure Cooker

Pressure cookers have really been making a come back in the last few years and for very good reason too. The simplicity and convenience that is offered by them is pretty much unmatched…especially if you want a nutritious, healthy meal. The Gourmia pressure cooker can help you do that…but they also make some bold claims. They claim it is the safest pressure cooker as well as the most advanced pressure cooker ever made.

The Gourmia pressure cooker has three major innovations that support this claim.

  1. Safely releases pressure
  2. Remote pressure release button
  3. Auto stir function

Safely releases pressure

The unique auto pressure release on the Gourmia pressure cooker releases the pressure safely and is unique to each food type.

Remote pressure release button

You can manually release the pressure without putting yourself in danger. This is actually a great invention that is only found on Gourmia pressure cookers. The normal procedure when you want to release pressure is to turn the valve on the lid. The issue here is one of safety and plenty of people have a story to tell. Being able to press a button on the panel means that you release pressure in the safest way possible.

Auto stir function

This is actually a genius invention. Often you will find that you need to open the pressure cooker to stir the ingredients inside. This invention essentially uses pressure pulses which are optimized for each food type.

Gourmia GPC965 Advanced Express Pot Review

It does it’s job well and you wont be disappointed but it’s worth considering the points i make below.

The Gourmia GPC965 is considered revolutionary and has 13 levels of pressure. Add to that the customization settings, every food type gets the perfect pressure and temperature for faster, better tasting meals.

The sheer number of things you can cook in your Gourmia GPC965 is breath taking. From tender roasts to mouth-watering stews, savoury puddings to warm fruit desserts. There is a fantastic recipe book to get you started.

The real beauty of pressure cooking is the speed…a soup can be made in 15 mins which is 70% faster than a standard cooking time. That is fast…so here is where the keep warm function comes in to play, keeping your food warm while your other menu items catch up.

A healthy, hearty meal in a fraction of the time. What is not to love about the Gourmia GPC965.

Functions

The Gourmia GPC965 Digital ExpressPot Pressure Cooker has 13 functions, most of which you will recognize. There is nothing new here but the method and special tricks that they offer may actually improve the cooking experience. I have to say that the auto stir function is fantastic.

Having a wide number of functions is worth spending a little more for. It allows you to do more things well and can potentially mean you need less appliances in your kitchen. At worst, at least it is a solid back up plan.

The presets DO save time if you take the time to learn them and test how they function. In my experience though, most people cook on manual by following a recipe.

Performance

In terms of range of pressure, this is always a good yardstick for the quality of a pressure cooker. The range on the Gourmia GPC965 Digital ExpressPot Pressure Cooker is between 1.5 – 12 PSI. This means that you can cook at low pressure when required, especially in manual. Essentially it gives you more control over what you cook…which is always a good thing.

The appliance is rated at 1000 watts and one of the key selling points is the efficiency it claims. Gourmia pressure cookers save 70% of the cooking time. That is a bold claim which may or may not be true…most pressure cookers perform similarly in my experience. Compared to another 1000w pressure cooker, is it that much faster…you decide.

Build quality

The Gourmia GPC965 Digital ExpressPot Pressure Cooker is well built and clearly well designed. I have to say that it does look sleek and attractive. It has some nice design touches and the pressed logo on the rim is very nice.

The build quality is good and definitely stands up to the rest of the market. One thing I find is the consistency of the build in this market. There is a standard that most manufacturers hit, this being a good example. Are they better than the other major players like Instant Pot?..probably not.

Cooking

There is a fallacy among reviewers that every pressure cooker produces wildly different results. Let me tell you that they don’t. Most produce very similar results and the variance is in the time in most cases. Since this is a high power 1000w with good Psi range, this will produce fast results. All this locking in flavor nonsense is just marketing spin.

Warranty

Standard 12 months manufactures warranty included. Get it on Amazon though, if you don’t like it, it’s easy to return.

There are reports of Gourmia not honoring their warranty because they were bought from ‘Unauthorized resellers’, so if this is what you want, check first.

The Company

Gourmia sell a range of kitchen gadgets and cookware. They are an American company based in New York.

Verdict…Would I buy the Gourmia GPC965 Pressure cooker?

I would definitely consider it for sure. Good Psi range and lots of functions. The product looks decent. However, as I mentioned earlier, most pressure cookers will do the same thing. The variance between them is minimal when it comes to cooking.

The real difference is in the functions they offer. In this case, the Gourmia GPC965 is good.

However, if I was in the market for a pressure cooker, I would base my decision on price, customer support…as well as the functions.

The price is pretty fair when compared to its rivals so that aspect is ok. The customer support might be a different story. In this market Instant Pot set the standard…do Gourmia meet that standard…difficult to say but you can come to your own conclusion with a quick google search.

Personally, I think the Instant Pot or Cosori may offer you what you need, so if you are looking around for a pressure cooker, consider them too. I have linked to some reviews I have done and you can find some of the products on sale at Amazon below.

So, that concludes my Gourmia Pressure cooker review. I hope it helps you make the decision you need.
