Is my air fryer dishwasher safe? It is a question that I get asked occasionally and one that often leads to some confusion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issue is regarding what aspect id\ndishwasher safe. All manufacturers\u2026including Philips, Ninja, Power, Cosori,\nDash etc will refer to their air fryers as dishwasher safe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I just need to clarify before we go into\ndepth on the issue, that the manufacturers are NOT<\/strong> talking about the\nwhole air fryer unit. That would be crazy given that it is an electrical\nappliance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s obvious isn\u2019t it? You would be\nsurprised how many times I have been asked that question. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What aspect of the air fryer is dishwasher safe?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Again, to be clear, the main body of the\nair fryer is not dishwasher safe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only aspect of your air fryer that is dishwasher safe<\/a>, is the removable aspects of it. That essentially means the air fryer basket and the pull out tray. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also include any accessories in\nthis answer. They are considered dishwasher safe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should I clean my air fryer basket in a dishwasher?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The simple answer is that you can clean\nyour air fryer basket in your dishwasher. I know it is so easy to put it in\nwith the rest of your dishes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is convenient and easy. The real\nquestion is whether you should be doing this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem is this\u2026your dishwasher\nnormally uses very hot water to get your dishes clean. Its how they work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This can have a dramatic impact on the\nlifespan of the air fryer basket. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are normally coated in a non-stick\ncoating like Teflon<\/a> or similar. This is done to make them more efficient\nand to stop food sticking to them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At high water temperatures and over time,\nthis coating is eroded which means that your air fryer basket loses its\nnon-stick coating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It may well start to flake of which means\nat this point; it is no longer safe to use. Once, non-stick cookware begins to\nflake, it is toxic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I therefore do not use my dishwasher to\nclean my air fryer basket. Just because you can does not mean you have too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I understand that it is more work for me\nbut I then justify it as it increases the life of my air fryer basket. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How should I clean my air fryer without a dishwasher?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The answer is simple\u2026your sink. It is the\nsafest way of cleaning your air fryer basket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simply use a sponge and mildly hot water<\/a> to clean. If there is some stubborn dirt, use a little bit of detergent.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is simple and effective, cleaning your\nair fryer basket properly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This should apply to all your non-stick\ncookware, especially if it is expensive and you want to prolong the lifespan of\nit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the grease on it is particularly\nstubborn or baked on, you can use a paste made of bicarbonate of soda to clear\nit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lemon is also used to freshen up the inside\nof the fryer. Simply put some lemon juice int to bottom of it and leave for 30\nminutes, before you wash it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Verdict<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

All the manufacturers will tell you that\ntheir air fryer is dishwasher safe. Everybody you know will tell you how\nconvenient they are. They are both correct. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, just because you can doesn\u2019t mean\nthat you have too. Indeed, my recommendation is that you hand wash them for the\nreasons I have outlined above. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately, the choice is yours\u2026convenience\nat the cost of lifespan or a product that you can keep in great condition for\nmuch longer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
