Roast chicken made in a Dutch oven is simply perfect. It\u2019s moist, succulent\u2026and absolutely tasty. You will have no complaints. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best thing about it? It is so easy to make. You can have literally no cooking skills to deliver a meal fit for a king. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dutchovenscookware.com\/best-dutch-oven\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cuisinart Dutch oven<\/a> I am using here is a 5-quart version. It is perfect for a 1 kg chicken\u2026enough room to roast some vegetables too. It is quite a small bird and the meal is for two\u2026with some left overs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are cooking for a larger group, then obviously you\nare going to need a bigger chicken. Most places sell chickens that are up to\n1.6 kg. In that case, you would ideally need a Dutch oven that is between 6 \u2013 7\nquarts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"how-to-roast-a-chicken-in-a-dutch-oven\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to roast a chicken in a Dutch oven<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The simple and least complex answer is to throw your vegetables\ninto the Dutch oven, put the chicken on top, lid on and put it in the oven for 90\nmins at 370f. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is the basic answer and yes, I am simplifying it. The\nlong answer is that it is not much more complicated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this roast chicken, I bought it pre-marinated with peri peri. You can of course do this yourself and I recommend that you do so. It will definitely taste better if you let it marinate longer and stab the chicken to let the flavors seep into the meat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I used a selection of vegetables\u2026potatoes, chantenay <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/glossary\/carrot\">carrots<\/a>, shallots, bell peppers and a few chilies. For those who have never tried adding chilies to roasts, I highly recommend them. They add a lovely flavor and you will definitely taste the difference\u2026greater depth to the taste. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Layer the base of the Dutch oven with the potatoes, carrots\nand any other starchy vegetable. I don\u2019t put the peppers or chillies in at this\nstage because they don\u2019t need as long to cook. I add them with half an hour of\ncooking time left. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I add some olive oil\u2026a few glugs straight from the bottle. I\nthen season it with salt and pepper. I also like to add oregano to taste too\u2026and\nthe smell is lovely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To prepare the chicken, I insert a sliced shallot and a couple\nof slices of lemon into it. I then place it on top of the vegetables. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p> <br><strong>Roast chicken made in a Dutch oven is simply perfect. It\u2019s moist, succulent\u2026and absolutely tasty<\/strong> <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>I should also mention that because this chicken is marinated,\nit will have a lovely color at the end. If you are not marinating it, I suggest\nsearing it before you start in order to add some lovely brown color. Trust me\nwhen I say that it will make a difference at the end. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Time to put it into the oven\u2026turn on the oven to 370f. I don\u2019t preheat the oven when I am using a Dutch oven as you can damage it with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dutchovenscookware.com\/can-i-put-an-empty-dutch-oven-in-the-oven\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">thermal shock<\/a>. Always heat from cold. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After an hour, I take it out and put the rest of the\nvegetables in\u2026the peppers and chillies. Back into the oven for another half an\nhour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it is done, take out the chicken and make sure it is\nproperly cooked through\u2026leave it to rest for 10 minutes or so. Ideally you\nshould use a digital thermometer\u2026but make sure the juices run free. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is pretty much it\u2026time to serve!!
